Pierre’s story is just too long to share, but I have learned some valuable lessons from him. Here’s a nutshell of his story. He was languishing in a kill shelter, rescued, having some strange symptoms, went through expensive testing by specialist, still a mystery but cleared for cataract surgery which went terribly wrong due to an immune problem, had several emergency surgeries ending with both eyes being removed. He’s a quirky little fella who has also had the benefit of laser and acupuncture. Let’s just say he has been the most expensive little rescue and will remain with us as a sanctuary baby.
Update: Pierre is still with us in sanctuary. He’s a sweet baby who loves to play with his toys. He has adjusted well to his blindness and is loved very much.
Update, May 2018: Pierre had a slow decline. He developed bronchialmalasia along with dementia. We kept him as occupied and comfortable as long as we could. The dementia caused a severe anxiety and neurologic problems. When it was apparent that he had no quality of life I brought him to the vet and sang him a lullaby as he pasted.
