Sox Update

Sox gave us a real scare…
On Feb 6 Sox was very lethargic then just collapsed. she was rushed to MedVet and stayed a few days in intensive care. Right before that she was vomiting and having bloody diarrhea. She was found to be in hypovolemic shock. She was symptomatically treated and recovered well. She was sent home with the explanation that the GI system in dogs is the stress center and can be triggered by many things. So, Diagnosis was acute hemorrhagic diarrhea syndrome (AHDS).
While there she had an ultrasound to check out a focal liver mass. She also had a cardiology consult which we had planned on but had not scheduled. The echocardiogram showed mild degenerative valve disease affecting the the mitral and tricuspid valves. No cardiac meds required at this time.
So, Sox came home and did well until she didn’t! Two weeks later she repeated the same episode. She became very lethargic with the vomiting and diarrhea. Again she was treated symptomatically and recovered.
While at vet her acth test was done to rule out a switch from Cushing’s to Addison’s. Turns out her Cushing’s was out of control probably due to being on and off her Trilostane because of these episodes. Barium radiographs shows no obstructions or masses in the gut. We are still waiting for the results from aspirate of the liver tumor. This mass could be affecting the adrenal cortex and causing her decompensation.
For now, she is doing fine. This was not only a frightening experience but also a very expensive endeavor.
Donations would be appreciated to cover her very high bill. Anyone with pets knows how expensive it is to have one stay at MedVet for intensive care!!!!
And here is a “Hollywood ” shot of her getting her laser treatment
